Volunteers across the region are being invited to participate in the Big Brother Big Sister Programme which is run by Foroige.
The initiative pairs adult volunteers with young people looking for friendship and support from those with a bit more life experience.
Clare Coyle is the project officer of the programme in Cavan and Monaghan.
She says there are currently a number of young people on a waiting list to join the initiative and as a result the need for volunteers has never been greater.
Clare added that referrals are taken from a number of agencies and those are then matched with a suitable volunteer.
"With some of our matches at the moment they enjoy hanging out together," she continued.
"Maybe they might go for a walk or a hot chocolate or just listen to music.
"It also about coming up with ideas about what to do and enjoy spending time together."
