The Virginia Water Treatment Plant should be completed by 2024.
This was the latest update from Cavan County Council on the plant, which was originally set for completion in 2021.
Councillors were told that design works are currently being carried out, and that the development has been included in the capital investment programme for 2022 to 2024.

However, despite some councillors stating this was positive news, T.P O'Reilly said this date was too far away and the stalled development of the plant was impacting on local group's planning applications.
He said that the project couldn't be kicked down the road again but and was reassured by the executive that Quarter 1 of 2024 was a realistic completion date:
