The Virginia to Ballyjamesduff road is to close for a month to allow for works at Dunancory Bridge.
Cavan County Council says the closure is necessary because of recent inclement weather and poor ground conditions.
The long awaited works to widen Dunancory Bridge are underway but the main Virginia to Ballyjamesduff road is to close from next Monday (August 31st).
Diversions will be in place with traffic diverted via the N3 in Virginia town, via the R196 at New Inn and via the R196 to the junction with the R194 in Ballyjamesduff town.
The closure will be in place until Saturday, September 26th - including weekends.
The County Council has apologised for the inconvenience caused but says the closure is necessary to allow the works to progress safely and to ensure a timely delivery of the project.
