Residents in Leitrim Village directly affected by Sunday's freak tornado will be able to avail of the Humanitarian Assistance Scheme. The Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, made the announcement yesterday following the Taoiseach's visit to the village. The income tested fund supports people whose homes have been damaged in severe weather events and who are unable to meet costs for essential needs.
Residents in Leitrim Village hoping to access the fund are asked to contact the Community Welfare Service. Meanwhile, clean up and assessment works are entering their third day this morning, with the main R280 road reopened through the village to a single lane. Pedestrian access through the affected street is still restricted until further notice.
