Verdicts will be revealed this afternoon into the deaths of 48 people in a fire at the Stardust ballroom in 1981. The jurors said they had reached a majority verdict yesterday afternoon.
After 122 days of evidence and 373 witnesses – verdicts have been reached at the Stardust Inquests. The foreman of the jury told the Dublin Coroner’s Court yesterday it had reached a majority decision following 11 days of deliberations. The five verdicts available to the jury have been accidental death, death by misadventure, unlawful killing, an open verdict or a narrative verdict.
The jurors were also asked to fill out a questionnaire about the circumstances of the fire. The Coroner deferred announcing the verdicts until 2pm this afternoon to allow Family members and friends of the victims to hear the decisions.
