A van has been driven through the gates of the home of Sinn Féin TD Martin Kenny.
He says it was "very traumatic" for his wife, who was alone in the property at the time.
Deputy Kenny said the incident took place at 2 o'clock yesterday morning at his home in Aughavas, Co Leitrim.
A van drove through the electric gates at speed and past the end of the house.
It crashed into a set of double glass doors at the rear of the property.
Deputy Kenny, who's Sinn Féin's justice spokesman, says the driver was taken to hospital.
He added the incident was very traumatic and frightening for his wife.
A Garda investigation is under way, and the Leitrim TD has thanked emergency services for their "speedy and professional work" at the scene.
