Aontú local election candidate Olivia Larkin is calling for services to be expanded at Monaghan Hospital. Ms Larkin is running in the upcoming election in the Ballybay-Clones LEA of Monaghan County Council. According to Olivia, changes are "badly needed" for the people of her area, with "health" and the improvement of services one of many things at the top of her agenda. While the local election hopeful commended the "great work" that is currently going on at Monaghan Hospital, she wants to see the "expansion" of that.
Speaking to Northern Sound, the Threemilehouse native said it was a "disgrace" that people are left on trolleys in Cavan while there is a hospital sitting in Monaghan. She added that locals should be able to visit family and friends who are ill in Monaghan, not Cavan or anyone else.
"There has be situations where people are left on trolleys in Cavan and we have a hospital sitting there in Monaghan," explained Ms Larkin. "We could expand the step-down unit, the rehab unit and bring in more consultants – the list is endless. Our health service is in a crisis, people need a voice and common sense must prevail."
