Cavan's Cathedral has received planning permission for a new draft lobby, alongside thermal and electrical upgrades.
The Cathedral of Saints Patrick and Felim, on Farnham Street in Cavan, is a protected structure.
The Planners Report says the works will be done in a way that causes the "least amount of disturbance to the historical fabric of the building".
It adds that the new draft lobby "will be carefully integrated at the main entrance door to the cathedral".
It also notes that the mosaic floor will be "undisturbed" by the works and the new glass doors will work around the existing structure and not cut through any decorative elements.
Meanwhile, the thermal upgrades will include installing trench heating along the existing pews, radiant heaters positioned at a high level in the Cathedral, and upgrading the lighting to LEDs.
