Cabinet Ministers will sign off on the updated Climate Action Plan this afternoon. It includes targets to reduce the number of car journeys; the amount of cattle in Ireland; and increase the number of electric vehicles being used.
Political Correspondent Seán Defoe says there will also be big changes to car parking spaces. "While the likes of congestion charges haven't made it into the final plan, sources are saying that changes to regulations around parking are going to be made.
"This will be specific to areas well served by public transport and includes reducing the among of parking available in the public service; increasing car parking fees in certain parts of the country; and reducing on-street parking to pritorise public transport.
"Again, they are saying that this is only going to be done if there are alternatives in place," he added.
