A Monaghan councillor has received an update in relation to water quality at Lough Muckno and the road to recovery plan. According to Cllr Aidan Campbell, the first phase of the report is is now complete and the next stage of the project is expected to be completed by Q4 of this year.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Campbell said; "This is something that I've talked about since I joined the council, and is something which the people of Castleblayney like myself feel very passionately about. I put in a number of council questions this month for an update in relation to the road to recovery to see where it's at.
"Monaghan County Council is working in conjunction with the University of Galway and looking at the quality of water in Lough Muckno. Investigation work into the lake will help inform the development of an integrated catchment plan.
"This work is progressing according to feedback I have received from my questions at this month's council meeting and we look forward to seeing where this will go. This work will determine the historical status of the lake and will help identify the condition of the lake and more importantly how we can make it better."
