Members of Monaghan County Council has offered "unanimous support" to the people of Rockcorry over plans for a future community centre in the village.
Members agreed at this month's council meeting that the local authority should take on the role of lead party in a project to provide Rockcorry with a new community centre.
This motion was initially brought forward by Sinn Fein's Pat Treanor. Speaking to Northern Sound about the matter, Cllr Treanor revealed that the project will deliver cross-community benefits to the area.
He added that the communities of Rockcorry and Drum have been putting together a local village plan and the need for a community centre was one of the big items to come out of this process.
"Like any other village around our area, something like this takes an awful lot of effort from the voluntary sector and in a lot of communities that falls on a few shoulders," explained Cllr Treanor.
He added; "It would be fantastic to see that the efforts put in over the years would be coming to fruition and the needs of the community would be met with a community centre."
