A driver in Cavan has been arrested for a raft of offences.

Cavan Roads Policing were conducting speed checks on the N3 when they clocked a car driving at 173kph in a 100kph zone.

When stopped, the driver was discovered to be a learner with no one accompanying them. They were arrested for dangerous driving and their car seized. While in custody, the driver also refused to provide a sample of blood or urine to test for alcohol for drugs, which is a legal requirement. A fixed penalty notice was issued and the driver will now appear in court to face multiple charges.

Gardaí are once again reminding road users to slow down and take care on the roads.
