An unaccompanied learner driver has been detected driving at 130km per hour on the N2.
Gardaí stopped a Mazda people carrier on the N2 near Monaghan Town which is a 100 km per hour zone yesterday evening. Officers ascertained the learner driver was travelling from Dublin to Donegal. The learner was issued with a fixed charge penalty notice, the car was seized and now court proceedings follow for the driver.
This incident follows one in Cavan earlier this week when a mother accompanying her 16-year-old learner driver son speed at 141 km per hour in a 100 km zone. The adult in that case was charged to court and the youth referred to the Garda Youth Diversion Programme.
