Her mother is from Newbliss, and she's a niece of Infectious Disease Specialist, Professor Sam McConkey.

A Ugandan Olympian with Monaghan roots has spoken of her joy of competing in Tokyo.

Kathleen Noble was born in Africa where her Irish parents live and work as missionaries.

Her mother Moira is from Newbliss, and she's a niece of Infectious Disease Specialist, Professor Sam McConkey.

Having previously represented Uganda in swimming, she moved to America to study in 2014 and made a successful switch to rowing.

She made history recently in becoming the first Ugandan Olympic rower when she competed in the women's single sculls at Tokyo 2020.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Kathleen Noble said it was a significant moment in her career.
