A UCC professor says there is a "spill-over issue" at the border which is causing covid-19 cases there to spike.
Gerry Kileen is a research chair in applied pathogen ecology, and his comments come amid suggestions that Cavan and Monaghan could be placed into Level 4 restrictions if stricter measures are announced in the north.
He says the whole country is on a bad trajectory, but Cavan and Monaghan are further along it.
Mr Kileen also suggested that the entire country should be placed under tighter restrictions, but that each respective county should come out of these restrictions at different times depending on its incidence rate.
