66-year-old Lilly Treanor from Co Monaghan has been named Netwatch Ulster Family Carer of the Year. Lilly previously cared for her son Noel, who had additional needs and sadly died in 2014, and currently cares full time for her husband of 43 years J.J. who has Parkinson's disease.
After Noel passed away, Lilly was a care worker in the community and became a family friend to many, giving more than just care. Speaking to Northern Sound, Lilly said she was "overwhelmed" to not only be acknowledged for her work but to claim the top prize. Lilly who has been described as a "hardworking lady" who goes above and beyond her duties in caring for her husband and other people in the community has also encouraged others to get involved in the caring sector, and to offer support to those who need it most.
