Local Gardai are warning business owners to be cautious following reports of fake €20 notes in circulation.
Gardaí in Monaghan received reports of counterfeit notes in the Clones area yesterday.
They are calling on all business owners and the public be aware when exchanging money. The local Gardai issued the warning highlighting it was a timely reminder to retailers to be on the lookout for fake notes in the run up to the Christmas period.
Due to the quick reaction of staff and management in a local shop Gardai were notified immediately and two people were apprehended after passing fake €20 notes in Clones this afternoon.
The notes were of good quality and could have easily gone undetected. Files are currently being prepared in relation to both individual's.
