64 motorists have been detected speeding by Gardaí in the first five hours of National Slow Down Day. One motorist in Co Monaghan was detected by Gardai within the first two hours of the road safety initiative.
The motorist in question was doing 85 kilometers per hour in a 60 zone, according to Gardai reports. Elsewhere, a driver in Tyrrellspass in Westmeath was caught driving at 149 kilometres per hour in a 120 zone.
And in Donegal, someone hit 87km/h in a 60km/h zone, while another in Wicklow was doing 137km/h in a 120km/h zone. Gardaí are urging motorists to slow down to reduce collisions and save lives.
