Two motorists face court proceedings after separate drug and driving offences in Co Monaghan over St Patrick's weekend.
The cars they were driving were also taken off the road.
On the 17th of March, Monaghan Roads Policing Unit received a report of a car driving dangerously on the outskirts of Monaghan town.
This vehicle was intercepted a short time later and the driver was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
It was later discovered that the driver was an unaccompanied learner permit holder, who was under the influence of alcohol.
The car he was driving was taken off the road as he had no accompanying qualified driver, and he was charged to appear in Court and faces disqualification.
Local gardaí say the public's "swift action may have helped to avert a tragedy".
Meanwhile, in the early hours of the 18th of March, gardaí in Castleblayney observed a car acting suspiciously while on patrol in the town.
A roadside drug test was carried out and the driver tested positive for cocaine.
It transpired the motorist was also disqualified from driving and was therefore driving without insurance.
They were arrested and the car was detained, and the driver now faces a Court appearance.
