Two drug drivers were arrested yesterday morning by members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit. As a result of the detection, both drivers subsequently failed the roadside drug tests. Prior to this incident, two other drivers also failed roadside drug tests yesterday morning.
According to local Gardaí, the first driver tested positive for cocaine, amphetamine, opiates and benzos. There was also a bench warrant in existence which resulted in an immediate court appearance.
The second driver was observed using a mobile phone while driving and when stopped tested positive for cannabis. Members of the Cavan Roads Policing Unit warned that these drivers risked their own lives and the lives of other road users by their irresponsible behaviour, adding that it is never acceptable to drive while under the influence of either alcohol or drugs.
