Two Monaghan brothers charged in relation to a serious assault that occurred on Tuesday the 14th of January in Monaghan Town have been further remanded in jail.

Declan Wallace was allegedly struck with a steel baseball bat sometime between 10pm and 11pm that night.

Jason Maughan, 25, and his 23-year-old brother Stephen Maughan, both of Mullaghmat, Monaghan town are charged with assault causing harm on Park Road in Monaghan town on Tuesday the 14th of January.

Molly Roberts, 21, of Lakeview, Enagh, Co Monaghan is also charged with the same offence. She was granted bail under a number of strict conditions and is to appear on a date in March at Monaghan District Court over the incident.

The man aged in his 40s that was seriously injured in the alleged assault remains in an induced coma in ICU at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin. Judge Raymond Finnegan at Monaghan District Court this morning further remanded both brothers, Stephen Maughan and Jason Maughan in custody until February 24th.

A bail application hearing for both men is listed for the High Court tomorrow. No DPP directions have been served and both will appear via video link on February 24th at Monaghan District Court.
