Two local wastewater treatment plants have been selected for upgrades as part of the Small Towns and Villages Growth Programme.
The investment will provide additional capacity for the development of new homes, while ensuring that wastewater continues to be treated to an appropriate standard.
Irish Water has announced these projects now to enable Local Authorities to make plans on housing and development into the short and medium-term.
Across the Northern Sound region, the Mullagh wastewater treatment plant in Cavan and the Oram wastewater treatment plant in Monaghan have been selected.
Rural & Community Development Minister, Heather Humphreys, says today's announcement "will ensure the treatment infrastructure is in place to meet the needs of the towns and villages".
The Ballyconnell wastewater treatment plant was also included for upgrades earlier in the year.
