Two Co Monaghan students have been praised for their leadership skills at the inaugural #AndSheCycles Ambassador Awards.
Research by the Green-Schools Programme has found that cycling is widely considered to be "a boy's thing", but two Monaghan students are fighting back against this stereotype.
Beech Hill College students Emile Lileikyte and Caitlyn Van Tonder were honoured at the Awards last week for their work as #AndSheCycles ambassadors, and for mentoring future ambassadors.
Former Beech Hill College student Aoife McCarron was also awarded at the ceremony for her outstanding contribution to the programme.
Only one girl in every 250 students use a bike as their primary mode of transport to school.
Senior Programme Manager with Green-Schools, Jane Hackett, said it's "great to celebrate these amazing young women who are working to deviate from the norm".
