Two Cavan schools have just received notice from the Department of Education that they will receive funding to make changes to their properties. Castletara National School has been approved for the money to add a new mainstream classroom, while St Bricin's College, an ETB school in Belturbet, has been told it will receive funding to refurbish its existing engineering room.
Education Minister Norma Foley announced the funding approval just before the weekend. Paying tribute to the principals and staff at both Cavan schools, local TD Niamh Smyth said the improvements are very welcome in the county: "Of course, all refurbishments and new-builds are really welcome," Deputy Smyth told Northern Sound, "and we're seeing a lot of that happening, thankfully across Cavan and Monaghan," Deputy Smyth told Northern Sound, "But, I just want to acknowledge the work of principals and boards of management to get these projects into the department in the first place; it's never easy and there's a lot of work behind these applications to get these approvals."
