The funeral of Monaghan man Joe Connolly is taking place this morning. A huge number of tributes have been paid to Joe since the sad news was announced over the weekend of his passing. One person described him as "a true son of Monaghan, a gentleman with kindness and consideration for every soul he met". Another said Monaghan Town "lost a great friend".
The sight of a smiling Joe with his litter picker in hand was a familiar one around Monaghan for many years. He had a friendly word for everyone and did so much for the town. Described as man of great compassion and understanding, he was very well known from his career as a psychiatric nurse at St Davnets Hospital and his work with Houston Scott Maxwell Funeral Directors.
Joe’s funeral Mass will be at 11 am this morning in St Macartan’s Cathedral with burial afterwards in Latlurcan cemetery.
