The controversial Troubles Legacy Bill has been described as a complete "denial of human rights". That's according to Cavan-Monaghan Sinn Fein TD, Deputy Pauline Tully. Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Deputy Tully highlighted how the legislation is opposed by not only the families of victims but every political party in Ireland.
Deputy Tully who is part of the Good Friday Agreement Implementation Committee said the group has had a number of people presenting evidence on the Legacy Bill who are expressing their concerns including human rights organisations, such as amnesty international.
As a result, the local representative has called on the Government to "confront" this issue and take an interstate case against the British Government to try and reverse this law. "This legislation is absolutely terrible," explained Deputy Tully. "It is something that's opposed by the families of victims and every political party on the island of Ireland.
"We know it's also opposed by the US Government and the UN, so the Irish Government has to confront this because it's a denial of human rights."
