Tributes have been pouring in for the 17 year old teenage boy who lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Co Monaghan in the early hours of this morning.
The fatal collision occurred at Carrickaderry near Clontibret at around 1.30 this morning.
In a post this afternoon on social media Monaghan Collegiate School said it was with great sadness that they learned of the tragic death of their former student Jake Brennan.
The School management said they along with all the whole school community extends its deepest sympathy to the Brennan and Graham family circle at this devastating time. They added that support will be offered to students in every way possible at this very sad time.
Deputy Matt Carty said that another dark day has been brought upon Co Monaghan and extended his deepest sympathises to Jake's family and friends.
Minister Heather Humphreys said that heartache and sadness have touched yet another Monaghan family. For a young life, with such a bright future, to be cut short in this way is truly devastating. Minister Humphreys added that there are no words that can truly capture how the family are feeling at this time.
Meanwhile the road has reopened following that fatal collision in the last half a hour. Gardaí in Monaghan are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who were travelling in the Clontibret area this morning between 1.00am and 1.45am, and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam), is asked to make this available to Gardaí. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200.
