Tributes have been paid following the death of local stalwart Jim 'Jimmy' McKiernan. Mr McKiernan who was widely known on the Monaghan vintage scene died in St Mary's Hospital in Castleblayney yesterday, Wednesday 3rd. In a touching tribute posted online, Monaghan Veteran and Vintage Club described the Clontibret native as an "active member" of the group from its early years until recent times.
The post continued; "Jimmy was a very active club member from the early years to recent times and no club event was complete until we saw Jimmy coming down the brae on his trusty T20. He loved the ploughing matches in the spring time and the threshing in the autumn. Many great nights we had in Renaghans on the eve of the rally and his friend Big Tom McBride up to sing a few songs. Rest in peace Jimmy we shall not see your likes again."
The funeral cortège of the late Jim McKiernan will travel from Ward's Funeral Home Castleblayney on Friday morning at 11am, to arrive at St Michael's Church, Annyalla for funeral mass at 12noon followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
