The late Paddy Cole has been described as a true gentleman and son of Castleblayney.
The veteran sax player and singer passed away yesterday afternoon after a long term battle with cancer.
The Monaghan man played with such acts like the Capitol Showband, Brendan Bowyer and his own Paddy Cole Superstars. He was known as the ‘King of the Swingers’ and only celebrated his 85th birthday last month.
Locals have being tribute to him throughout the day, Sean Hughes from Castleblayney said Paddy was a gas character and his death is a sad day for the people of Blayney.
Local resident Mary Byrne knew Paddy all her life and he said he had a presence were ever he went, she said she has fond memories of Paddy over the years adding that his death is a huge loss to the town and that she was thinking of his family at this very sad time.
Eileen Gormley from Eileen's Tea Rooms in Castleblayney said Paddy was always full of fun and devilment.
