It's hoped the pilot pedestrianisation of some Cavan town streets will create a safe space and welcoming place for people to socialise.
The scheme will begin this evening from 7pm.
The area to be pedestrianised stretches from Main Street's junction with Thomas Ashe Street as far as the junction with Town Hall Street and from the top of Bridge Street to the bottom of the Fairgreen Hill.
They will close from 7pm to 11pm on Friday and Saturday and from 3pm to 9pm on Sundays for this weekend and next weekend.
Street entertainment and other events are planned for those weekends.
