The Transport Minister has confirmed that his department is “engaging” with Monaghan County Council in relation to a meeting about the “atrocious condition” of the county’s roads.
Cllr Seamus Coyle has passed a number of motions recently inviting the Transport Minister to Co Monaghan to personally inspect the road network.
But at a County Council meeting in July, Cllr Coyle noted that the Council "forwarded the motion again, but there is no action from Eamon Ryan".
However, in response to a parliamentary question from local TD Niamh Smyth, asking if he is “willing to meet a delegation from the Council”, Minister Ryan confirmed that the department is “engaging” with the Local Authority regarding a meeting.
In a statement to Northern Sound, Deputy Smyth said “too many lives have been lost on local roads and a concerted effort must be made to carry out the necessary improvements”.
