A Monaghan councillor has raised his concerns over pedestrian safety at Latlurcan. Cllr Sean Conlon is calling for safety measures to be put in place as a matter of urgency. According to Cllr Conlon, a large number of both private and council housing is spanned across the development which is occupied by lots of families with young children. Despite the work that has been carried out across the local area, he believes that appropriate traffic calming measures are missing.
As a result, he has called for a road safety assessment to be conducted and appropriate traffic measures implemented soon after that; "You'd only need to stand there in the area for an hour or two at different times, especially in the late afternoon when children are home from school and that would be plenty of an assessment to see the amount of young people running around. This is long overdue, especially when an ice-cream van comes rolling in and there's children running in from every direction. There is a particular stretch of road that is in dire need of traffic calming measures and something needs to be implemented to before an accident happens."
