People affiliate Paddy Reilly with the town of Ballyjamesduff right across the globe. That's according to Cllr Trevor Smith who is calling for a memorial to be dedicated to the local man in Ballyjamesduff.
The Fine Gael representative raised the matter at this week's sitting of the Balllyjamesduff Municipal District. Paddy Reilly was a local taxi man from the area who sparked up a friendship with Percy French which led to the famous song - Come back Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Smith says it's important to honour one of most famous sons who has put the town of Ballyjamesduff on the map. As a result, Cllr Smith received unanimous support on his motion to name a certain housing scheme after him.
"The Percy French Hotel is gone," explained Cllr Smith. "The council have bought the building which will now be turned into a modern community, tourism and enterprise hub. I asked the council to incorporate Paddy Reilly into the naming of the new centre and it received unanimous support from the councillors at yesterday's meeting."
