The 50th anniversary commemoration marks the deaths of 34 people, including an unborn baby, in the single deadliest day of the Troubles conflict.

A commemoration is being held today to mark the 50th anniversary of the deadliest event in the history of the Troubles. 34 people were killed in a series of bomb attacks in Dublin and Monaghan, on the 17th of May 1974.

At 6.4pm this evening, President Michael D Higgins as well the Taoiseach and Tánaiste will attend a Wreath-laying ceremony at the Memorial to the victims, at Church Square in Monaghan Town. Taoiseach Simon Harris and Tánaiste Micheál Martin will attend a ceremony on Talbot street this morning, where one of three explosions in Dublin happened. A fourth blast in Monaghan town went off 90 minutes later. Margaret Urwin of Justice for the Forgotten says the State commemoration means a lot to the families.
