Today marks the 39th anniversary of the deaths of Garda recruit Gary Sheehan and Patrick Kelly in Leitrim in 1983.
The two men were shot dead by the IRA as they took part in a search operation for kidnapped Quinnsworth CEO Don Tidey.
Recruit Garda Gary Sheehan who was from Carrickmacross was one of a number of recruits undergoing training at Templemore, who were sent to supplement the search over a wide area of Derrada Woods outside Ballinamore.
The Supermarket CEO Don Tidey was rescued safely at the scene, but no one has ever been charged in relations to the deaths of Paddy Kelly or Gary Sheehan.
A Garda medal ceremony was held in Dublin last year with 14 Scott medals presented to Garda members resulting from their actions in Derrada.
A Gold Scott medal was awarded posthumously to Garda Sheehan.
