Three non-compliances, one of which was deemed 'high risk' was found during an inspection of the Adult Psychiatric Unit at Cavan General Hospital.
Despite this, the Mental Health Commission said it was "heartening" to see the Cavan unit score above 90% compliance for the second year in a row.
The Adult Psychiatric Unit at Cavan General Hospital serves Monaghan and most of Cavan.
As a result of the inspection, the unit recorded an overall compliance rate of 91% which was a slight reduction on the 97% it received in 2020.
John Farrelly, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Commission, said it was "heartening" to see the Cavan unit score above 90% compliance for the second year in succession but would like to see the high risk in relation to ligature points be rectified soon.
His comments were in response to a ligature reduction programme that had only in parts been implemented throughout the year and not all ligature points were minimized to the lowest practicable level, based on risk assessment.
Mr Farrelly said, "Removing ligature points in their entirety across a centre is crucial to patient safety and we want to see progress in that area."
Despite this, only three non-compliances were found and the unit was described as "well laid out" with sufficient spaces provided for residents to move about, including outdoor spaces and a garden.
Communal rooms were found to be "appropriately sized" and included two sitting rooms, one large dining room with a seating area, a quiet room, and a music room, along with a sufficient number of toilets and showers for residents to use in the unit.
