Three more Drumlin Giants have been "awakened" at Rossmore Park.
Muireann, Ailinn and Thoth are now on view to visitors to the park south of Monaghan Town. To those who don't already know, the Drumlins were around before the Vikings, Celts and even Noah's Ark, but they have been sleeping at Rossmore until local creatives Paul Bond and sculptor Marc Kelly brought them back to life in recent years. Ten giant sculptures are lying or standing guard at the park with one more still to be "woken".
Monaghan Councillor Paudge Connolly said the giants are a great attraction for tourists and residents and praised the effort by so many local people to make the project happen. "Thew whole concept was started by Monaghan Town Team and it was taken on, and funded by, Monaghan Municipal District," Cllr Connolly told Northern Sound, "And, the sculptor we got in is local man, Marc Kelly and the story creator is Paul Bond so, all in all, it's a whole local project that has been put together and it is bringing Rossmore to a brand new level, to be one of the most visited parks in the country. The park, is going from strength to strength."
