Three men from Co. Monaghan were arrested in relation to a keyless car theft in Armagh earlier this week.
The men aged 40, 39 and 67 were arrested by An Garda Síochána following a joint policing operation with the PSNI. A BMW X5 was stolen from a driveway in the Limestone area of Armagh City in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
PSNI detectives then received information from a member of that public that a vehicle matching the description of the one stolen had been seen at an address in Monaghan. Gardaí arrested the three men on suspicion of possession of stolen property, and a number of items were seized and taken away for further examination.
The homeowner saw a man dressed in dark clothing with a large backpack on her driveway, and realised her vehicle was missing just before the man made off on foot. The owner still had both sets of keys to the vehicle in her possession.
They were taken to garda stations in the County Monaghan area but, two of them were released without charge. The male aged in his 40's appeared before Cavan District Court this morning and has now been remanded in custody to appear before Monaghan District Court next Monday, 25th March.
PSNI Detective Foley said this investigation shows the PSNI and An Garda Síochána's commitment to tackling cross-border criminality. Police advise keyless car owners to keep your car key and spare key away from the car, doors and windows, put your keys in a signal-blocking pouch, such as a Faraday Bag, turn off wireless signals on your fob when it's not being used and use a steering wheel lock or car alarm.
