Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys has announced a series of new initiatives and funding that will make remote working more accessible and attractive for thousands of people across the region.
In Monaghan Scotstown Business Centre will receive €75,000; Castleblayney Enterprise Centre, €17,265.37; Tullycorbet Community Centre, €10,336.50; Monaghan Enterprise, €161,817; Cora Community Hub, €13,590; The Railway Exchange: €75,000.
In Co Cavan, €75,000 will go to the Broadband Connection Point in Castlerahan for upgrades, while a further €63,000 will be used to support the Cootehill Remote Working Hub.
The funding is part of a new national remote working plan announced by the Minister.
A key part of the plan is the Connected Hubs Voucher Scheme which will give remote workers free use of their local digital hub.
Remote Working facilities on the Connected Hubs Network have now reached 242 nationwide.
The Connected Hubs Call 2022 will see €5m provided to support our existing hubs," Minister Humphreys added.
"This is on top of the almost €9m I awarded to applicants in 2021.
“This scheme is designed to add remote working capacity at hubs and Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) across the country, to make more space for remote workers."
Meanwhile, the Minister is also providing €50,000 in funding to each Local Authority under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
This will allow Monaghan and Cavan County Councils to fund a marketing campaign and promote the remote working opportunities available in their areas.
Minister Humphreys said she was “serious” about ensuring that society doesn't simply revert to the ‘old normal’.
“The quality of the successful applications was very high this year and I was delighted by the level of interest," she added.
"It is clear that there is a huge amount of creativity and ambition among hubs and BCPs.
"It is something I see myself on a regular basis as I visit these wonderful facilities regularly.”
