A Co Cavan walking trail is among 31 trails nationwide that are being added to the government's "Walks Scheme".
The scheme provides funding to farmers and other landowners to maintain walking trails that travel through their holdings.
Eight new Rural Recreation Officers are also being appointed to enhance outdoor amenities, and a new Officer will be in place in Co Cavan.
The Department of Rural and Community Development says it will work with over 2,400 landowners to open up the countryside to walkers, hikers and tourists.
In Co Cavan, 11 landowners will receive funding to maintain "The Cavan Way", which is a 26 kilometre walking trail.
Minister Heather Humphreys says today's announcement will ensure that the walking trails "can be enjoyed and experienced by millions of people every year".
