New average speed cameras have been installed on a major road in Cavan.
The new cameras measure a vehicles speed over a certain distance rather than at a fixed point.
The cameras have been installed on the N3 between Kilduff and Billis in Cavan as it has been noted as a high collision area.
They use Automatic Number Plate recognition to record the time ,date ,and location with anyone detected speeding being issued a fine. It is one of the first roads outside of Dublin to have this infrastructure installed alongside the N5 in Mayo. Geraldine Herbert, motoring editor with the Irish Independent says before the cameras on the N3 go live motorists will be well informed.
