Tenders are currently being evaluated for works to Bawnboy Garda Station in Co Cavan.
It was first slated for reopening in 2017 but little progress has been made since.
The OPW has said renovation works are needed but the discovery of asbestos in the building has further delayed the project.
Over €200,000 worth of works is needed on the station, which was closed as part of cost cutting moves in 2013.
Minister for the OPW Patrick O'Donovan says tenders for the refurbishment work are currently being evaluated and work is expected to take three months once it begins.
