A tender to develop a new museum and visitor experience at the former Lennard Arms in Clones has been published.
It forms part of a multi-million euro investment in developing tourist attractions in the region
The tender published this week by Monaghan County Council seeks Creative Consultancy Services to analyse and decide on a preferred option for the new visitor experience. The experience will utilise the former Lennard Arms Hotel in Clones, a protected structure Tender documentation states the visitor experience will focus on the medieval monastic heritage of Clones with a number of exhibits proposed. One of these is the relocation of The High Cross from the Diamond into the visitor centre, and a reliquary shrine thought to mark the burial place of St Tiarnach with select artefacts from the local museum collection. The themes identified for the experience so far is the early spread of Christianity, Monastic Settlement in Clones, St Tiarnach. Monastic Life in Clones, and The High Cross. The deliverable of the tender is a Visitor Experience Development Plan and Outline Interpretation Plan which will need to be presented to the Ballybay-Clones MD and the Clones Town Team among others. The budget for the project is not yet known.
