Temperatures of -9 are expected tonight at Ballyhaise Weather Station in Cavan.
Yesterday saw the coldest day in the past 12 years across Met Éireann's network of weather stations.
The weather station in Ballyhaise, Co Cavan recorded a maximum temperature of -3.2 degrees throughout the day yesterday.
A temperature low of -6 degrees was recorded overnight leaving it one of the coldest locations across the country.
Cathal Nolan from Irelands Weather Channel told the Joe Finnegan show that similar temperatures will be replicated over the next few days.
The weekend will see much milder temperatures the forecaster said with temperatures up at around 10 or 11 degrees.
