Temperatures across Cavan and Monaghan are between -4 and -6 this morning as Ireland's cold snap looks to set to last into next week.
A national status yellow low temperature and ice warning is in place until midday today. Locally, motorists are being advised to take care on secondary and by roads, however main routes including the N54 and N55 are gritted.
Freezing fog between Butlers Bridge and Clones this morning is making driving conditions along the route difficult. Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly says the weekend will be extremely cold.
"This cold spell looks set to continue well into next week now. So, very cold weekend ahead with more freezing fog. We will have very cold night temperatures and it will struggle to get above freezing during the day.
"Unfortunately it looks like the cold weather is going to continue next week with the risk of wintery showers also," he added.
