Sinn Fein TD Darren O'Rourke says Government must take action to mitigate the effect of the increase in energy prices.
It's after SSE Airtricity announced a price hike from October 1st, with bills rising 1,100 euro a year for gas and electricity.
He wants the state to insist all customers are placed on the lowest possible tariffs by suppliers and says they should extend the ban on disconnections.
Deputy O'Rourke is worried about more energy price rises that could be on the way:
"Well I'm very concerned, and I'm sure people right across the state are very concerned as well, particularly when it is indicated this is not the end of it and in fact there may very well be further price hikes in the weeks and months ahead. This comes at a time when families are already pressed to the pin of the collar."
