The presentation of a bowl of shamrock by the Taoiseach to the US President takes place in Washington later today.
The tradition first began in 1952 when the Irish Ambassador sent a box of shamrock to the then president Harry Truman.
But the US support for Israel in the war on Gaza has led for calls here for the tradition to be cancelled this year.
People Before Profit TD Mick Barry called on a Palestinian solidarity gathering in Cork to say that the presentation was not happening in their name.
