A Fianna Fáil backbencher has said it's time for the current Taoiseach to step aside.

The Taoiseach says there needs to be perspective on the issue.

Deputy McGuinness described the party as an 'echo chamber' with 'entirely unrealistic' views.

Micheál Martin says "it's important for the party to unite".

The Taoiseach is to address the nation shortly to outline the roadmap to ending restrictions.

Cabinet will meet this afternoon to sign off on the plans.

Micheál Martin added that the judge overseeing the inquiry could soon "be in a position to finalise his report".

Final plans will be laid out when industry representatives meet with senior government officials.
