The Taoiseach has paid tribute to former Fianna Fáil TD, Senator and Councillor Jimmy Leonard.
Jimmy passed away peacefully at home yesterday, surrounded by his wife Tess and family.
He served as a member of Oireachtas Eireann between 1973, until his retirement in 1997.
For over 23 of this 24-year period, Jimmy served as TD, first elected in 1973 representing the Monaghan Constituency and from 1977 onwards, Cavan Monaghan.
Jimmy was also a member of Monaghan County Council, first elected in 1974 and serving as a councillor until 1999.
Micheál Martin said he was very sorry to learn of Jimmy's passing, calling him "a true community champion who has left a significant mark in both national and local politics".
