Failures in Government policy mean many members of the Defence Forces have to cross the border to get appropriate medical treatment. That's according to PDFORRA which will put it's concerns to the Tánaiste at its annual conference in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Ballyconnell today. The representative association has recently expanded its scheme which allows injured military personnel to access private health care in Northern Ireland.
President of the group Mark Keane says they shouldn't be the one picking up the tab for this. "We done that as a need and to fill a void to allow our members to get back to work and duty," he explained. "It's something that has proven to be successful but unfortunately this was due to a failure in government policy where they failed to address the ongoing lack of investment and medical facilities for members of the defence forces."
